The doors have a track on top and the doors hang from that track. For a certain home this might be just the look you need to complete your décor. However, we should keep in mind that since they hang from a track, there will be gaps on the sides. As a result, light, noise and odors won’t be blocked by using barn doors. Naturally, you’d get some privacy with them but not 100%.

Where Not to Use Barn Doors

Naturally, anywhere that you want complete privacy would not be the right place for these doors. For that reason, they should not be used for kitchens, bathrooms or bedrooms. Additionally, if you have a home office, a different type of door would be a better choice.

Where Barn Doors are the Right Choice

You might want to close off some space in your kitchen and make a pantry. Depending on the style of your home, these doors might look great there.

Nobody needs 100% light blocking for a closet. Consequently, that’s another great place for this style of door.

The laundry room might be a great place for them as well. Since they don’t block moisture, they can help to keep the laundry room from becoming too humid. We have enough humidity here in South Florida already. However, when humidity is trapped in our laundry room, mold can grow.

If you need some flex space, this might be the perfect option for you. For instance, if you have a room that’s too long barn doors are a great way to divide the space.
